The moment they hit recycling, the truth comes out: the materials can't be separated, and degraded plastic barely breaks down at all.
So they end up buried or burned, one more piece of plastic that never really goes away.
We chose the harder path instead.
We acquired a local factory in Taiwan, giving up the convenience of mixed materials and redesigned from the raw material up.

Why We Insist on Mono-material
Without discipline at the material source, recycling downstream doesn't work.
Mixed materials make it easy to hit drop-test numbers, but they turn recycling into an uphill battle: separation doesn't pay off, and degraded material barely breaks down.
Mono-material doesn't sound impressive. It's actually the harder road to take.
Recycling a composite case means solving the material separation problem first: it doesn't pay for itself, and the material degrades and barely breaks down. A mono-material case skips that whole process. Grind it down, and it can go straight back into production. That's what real circularity actually looks like.
Mostly, no.
Composite cases have to be separated into individual materials before they can enter the recycling stream, but adhesives, coatings, and layered structures often make separation more expensive than just making a new case. That's usually where recycling breaks down.
mono-material cases skip separation entirely. Grind it down, and it's ready to be remade. This is exactly why RHINOSHIELD chose mono material starting from the raw material itself.
This is the most common misconception.
The quality of recycled material comes down to the material itself and the manufacturing process, not the fact that it's recycled.
Our material lab runs the same tensile and durability tests on virgin and recycled material side by side, and only moves to production once the strength numbers match. Recycled material isn't a compromise. It's held to the same standard.
No. If anything, it's more durable.
Mono-material means no aging mismatch between layers, no delamination, no adhesive failure over time.
Our SolidX material can be recycled up to six times, and every cycle still has to pass drop and durability testing before it goes back into production. Durability doesn't get discounted just because it's been through another cycle.
No.
PLA is a bio-based plastic made from corn, sugarcane, and similar crops, and it's often mistaken for an "eco-friendly material." But most PLA needs industrial composting conditions to break down. Thrown into regular trash or the ocean, it barely breaks down any better than conventional plastic.
RHINOSHIELD's approach is recycled material: grinding down what's already been used and remaking it, rather than relying on the "sounds eco-friendly" reputation of bio-based plastics.
We also don't just say we use recycled material. We publish the actual percentage and put it through third-party verification under UL 2809, so every claim can be checked.
