The [Animal Series] features two designs showcasing beautiful flying cranes; which were inspired by the National Palace Museum's [Cranes of Prosperity] and [Hunting at Shanglin Park] collections. The first scroll [Cranes of Prosperity], painted by Yu Feian, portrays two cranes soaring into the blue sky, surrounded by auspicious clouds and pine trees. The painting symbolizes longevity and was created to celebrate the artist's brother's 59th birthday. The second scroll [Hunting at Shanglin Park], painted by Ssu-ma Hsiang-ju, depicts a grand hunting scene of the prince in the imperial forest during the Han dynasty. The painting features delicate brushwork and is painted mainly in shades of green.

The design is based on a scroll called [Peacock Spreading Its Tail Feathers], painted by Giuseppe Castiglione during the Qing dynasty. The painting showcases very large peacocks walking in a palatial garden. The painting uses a traditional Chinese coloring to incorporate the effect of light and shadow found in Western paintings. That way, Giuseppe Castiglione was able to create a beautiful and eye-catching painting with bright colors.
